I was born at the women’s hospital in Houston Texas in 1988. A few years and a few moves later, I ended up in Cary, North Carolina, which is where I spent the rest of my childhood. It’s suburb of Raleigh and truly a great place to grow up. It was there that I found my love of the arts. I took my first dance class in middle school and decided that dance was really something that I had a passion for. It was fun and physically demanding and it wasn’t math class. What’s not to love??
As I continued to take dance class, I found that I lived just a short drive from two major artistic outlets; North Carolina Theatre and The Carolina Ballet. They both gave me a invaluable opportunity to work with professional actors, dancers, and directors from New York City right in my own backyard. Working with these companies showed me first hand that someone can actually have a career and make a living through performing. At North Carolina Theatre I was cast in productions of Fiddler on the Roof, Joseph..., Cabaret, and South Pacific. I had caught the acting bug and finally knew that this is what I wanted to do.
With high school graduation approaching, I had to make the decision whether or not to attend college. After much agonizing, I finally came to the conclusion that college wasn’t for me and that I wanted to go out into the world to pursue a career in performing. So, with the support of my parents, I packed up my red pickup truck and drove across the country to Los Angeles.
When I got to LA, I was fortunate enough to be accepted into the scholarship program at the EDGE dance studio in Hollywood. So I spent the first year away from home getting my butt kicked at the EDGE. After those 12 months on scholarship I was a completely new dancer. The scholarship program helped me and my dancing more than I can ever say. It was soon after that when I got my Actors' Equity card dancing “Steam Heat” in Musical Theatre West’s production of The Pajama Game. After that I continued to work in Los Angeles doing more shows with Musical Theatre West, a movie with the Wayans brothers, and industrials for companies like RUSK hair products, Mattel, and FIDM.
While visiting New York City in 2008, I was cast in a little known musical called MEMPHIS. Two out of town productions of the show and almost two years later, it lead me to my Broadway debut at the Shubert Theatre.
After living in Los Angeles and New York City I like to consider myself bicoastal. I thrive on the fast pace of NYC, but I love the serenity of the beaches and mountains in southern California. I feel incredibly blessed to have a career doing what I love and amazing friends and family who inspire me each and everyday. I hope to continue learning and growing as an artist not only in theatre, but in film, television, and voice over arts as well. No matter what, I’ll strive to live each day to is fullest and have a positive influence on those around me.
